Lauderdale became president of The Florida Bar Foundation July 1.“This year will be critical to the future of legal aid in Florida, and we will have to be more innovative and dedicated than ever in order to continue to help our grantees meet their clients’ needs,” said Cummings. “We know that we can count on those in the legal community who understand the importance of civil legal representation for the state’s most vulnerable populations.”Cummings, a Florida Bar Foundation fellow, received her juris doctor from Nova Southeastern Law School and a master’s degree in counseling from Barry University. She is a shareholder at Gray Robinson’s Ft. Lauderdale office and practices family law.A Foundation board member since 2002, Cummings has served on several Foundation committees, including the Finance and Audit, Grant Program, Improvements in the Administration of Justice, IOTA, and Medal of Honor Award committees.“As president, it has been an honor to share how the Foundation has positively impacted lives through its mission to provide greater access to justice,” said immediate past Foundation President John A. Noland. “I am confident that the Foundation will benefit greatly from Michele Cummings’ leadership as it moves forward.”Cummings serves as a representative to the ABA House of Delegates and has served on the executive council of the Family Law Section of The Florida Bar. She also previously served as chair of the 17th Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission and as president of the South Broward Bar Association and of the Nova Law Alumni Association.A former member of the Bar’s Board of Governors, Cummings chaired the board’s Communications, Access, and Program Evaluation committees, and was a member of the Executive Committee.Cummings’ fellow officers on The Florida Bar Foundation board are: President-elect Maria Henderson; First Vice President John Patterson, Second Vice President Senior Judge Emerson R.
