Chairman of the Commission, Worrick Bogle, confirmed Tuesday afternoon that arrangements are being made for Dr. Blythe’s appearance. He said that the date could be announced as early as Friday. The enquiry is being held at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, New Kingston. However, Mr. Bogle said that the Commission has decided to reject the request for the appearance of former Prime Minister, the Most Hon P.J. Patterson, as well as former FINSAC executives, Dr. Glastone Bonnick and Dennis Boothe. He said that the Commission already has access to documents which can provide the information which would be required from them. Attorney-at-law, Anthony Levy, who represents former Thermo-Plastics/Plas Pak managing director, Jean Michel Desulme, at the enquiry, had requested the appearance of all four persons. He suggested that they could provide valuable inside information. His requests followed public comments on the role of the then administration by both Mr. Patterson and Dr. Blythe, who were leading members of the Government. Dr. Blythe has urged Mr. Patterson and former Minister of Finance and Planning, Dr Omar Davies, to accept responsibility for the role the Government they formed in the 1990s played in the meltdown. He also chided that administration for maintaining, for too long, a high interest rate policy that crippled local businesses leading to the meltdown. The enquiry resumes on Wednesday July 6, 2011.
